SIA Media Statement - Strategic Partnering Agreement signing

10th February 2019

Media Release – 11 February 2019

STRATEGIC PARTNERING AGREEMENT SIGNING

Public statement from the President of the Submarine Institute of Australia (SIA), Mark Sander:

“The signing of a Strategic Partnering Agreement between the Australian Government and Naval Group for our new submarines, the Attack class submarines, is a significant milestone in this project, which is vital to Australia’s national security.

“It is pleasing that the agreement has been formalised, meaning more substantial work on delivering the Attack class submarines to the Royal Australian Navy can now take place.

“Acknowledging that the SIA is not privy to the content of the Strategic Partnering Agreement, it is in the interests of Australia’s national security that the risk of a capability gap during the transition from the Collins class submarines to the Attack class submarines is at the forefront of government policy, so that the level of risk is minimised at all times.”
