SIA Media Release - Tickets on sale for submarine conference

24th June 2021

Media Release – 25 June 2021

TICKETS ON SALE FOR SUBMARINE CONFERENCE

Tickets to the leading Indo-Pacific forum on submarines, the annual Submarine Institute of Australia (SIA) conference, are now on sale.

This year’s conference – the 6th Submarine Science, Technology and Engineering Conference (SubSTEC6) – is scheduled to take place in Adelaide from 8-10 November 2021.

“SubSTEC6 is set to take place at an important time in the public debate about Australia’s sovereign submarine capability,” said SIA Executive Director, David Nicholls.

“With this being the case, the SIA is in the process of assembling a line-up of speakers at the conference which more than matches those of previous years.

“Tickets to the conference are now on sale, with the deadline for early-bird registrations being the end of June.”

Confirmed speakers so far include:

  • Mr Gregory Sammut, General Manager Submarines, Department of Defence (Capability, Acquisition and Sustainment Group);
  • Commodore Tom Phillips RAN, Director General Submarines, Royal Australian Navy; and
  • Dr Cathy Foley AO PSM, Chief Scientist (Australia).

The conference theme is “Home grown undersea technology: how can Australian academia and industry provide a capability edge?”.

The event will also include a conference dinner and tours of defence industry businesses and academic institutions in Adelaide.

Mr Nicholls said: “For those who are considering presenting a paper at the conference, the deadline to submit abstracts has been extended to 30 June.

“As has been the situation for previous SIA technology conferences, all papers which are accepted will be published by the SIA as formal conference proceedings following the event.”

The SIA is also pleased to welcome Defence West as the gold sponsor of SubSTEC6.

“The SIA greatly values the support it has received from Defence West, indeed all of our conference sponsors,” Mr Nicholls said.

“Other sponsorship opportunities are still available, so if your company or organisation has an interest in this, please contact the SIA for further information.”

Comprehensive information about SubSTEC6, including how to register, can be found on the SIA website, www.submarineinstitute.com.
