Management of sensitive information

Media Release - 24 August 2016

MANAGEMENT OF SENSITIVE INFORMATION

Media statement from the Executive Director of the Submarine Institute of Australia, David Nicholls:

“The Submarine Institute of Australia (SIA) notes media coverage today relating to sensitive information about the capability of submarines designed for the Indian Navy.

While this is a serious matter, the SIA has confidence in the Department of Defence to manage sensitive information about Australian submarines in an effective manner.

Australian submarine programs have always been managed under stringent security requirements which protect all information and technical data.

“They have been operated successfully for decades during the procurement, build and operational profile of the Oberon and Collins classes of submarines and there is no reason to believe the situation will be different for the Future Submarines.
